Electric biking is becoming a worldwide trend, and countries are responding to this trend by organizing events geared towards ebikers. Some of these events are located in one of the most popular biking destinations – the European Alps. A recent report in The Guardian described a bike ride through the French Alps, where riders experience culture and scenic beauty at the same time. Add these three alpine ebike events to your travel bucket list.
Italy: Sellaronda Bike Day

The Sellaronda is a spectacular formation located in the Dolomites of Northern Italy, a mountain range designed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. One day a year, the roads around the Sellaronda are only open to bikers – including ebikes! Some shops even offer electric bike rental options. Depending on where you start, the 58km route covers a difference in altitude of 1637 meters. Over 12,000 bikers joined the 2019 Bike Day took place on June 22.
Switzerland: Verbier Ebike Festival

Verbier is an alpine town located in the Valais Canton of southwest Switzerland. Registered visitors can try road ebikes or mountain ebikes, with or without a guide. Combine an ebike tour through the stunning Swiss Alps with local culture with specially designed routes, such as the Rando Gourmande that includes five food stops. The festival is a good for beginners and ebike experts alike. The 2019 festival will be August 15-18 and will likely be repeated next year as ebikes become ever more popular.
Austria: St. Anton am Arlberg Festival

Similar to the Italian and Swiss destinations, St. Anton am Arlberg in Austria is a popular hub for skiing in the winter. Now it is possible to enjoy the Alps in the summer when you compliment a hiking tour or a road trip through Austria with a stop at the St. Anton am Arlberg eBike Festival, which started in 2018 and was successfully repeated in 2019 from June 21-23. The focus of the festival is mountain ebikes. Bike past stunning vistas, alpine meadows and alpine lakes during the day, then meet other ebikers and explore the charming community at events in the evening.
