Electric bikes are growing increasingly popular among people who need to take short- to mid-range trips and don’t want to deal with the hassle of driving. You can go around traffic, take off-road trails and enjoy a more relaxed travel experience. Plus, e-bikes are better for the environment than almost any other form of travel.

However, a lot of people wonder about their performance. How much do the motors help with pedaling? How fast can you really go?

E-Lux Electric Bike Powertrains

First, it is helpful to understand a little about the powertrain that drives the electric part of the bike. At E-Lux Electric Bikes, we have a few powertrain options available. Most of our bikes fall into two categories: our classic powertrain and the GT series powertrain.

The former has a 500-watt motor that can be paired with either a 48-volt, 14-ampere-hour battery or an optional 21-ampere-hour battery. The GT series bikes have a 750-wall motor with the 48-volt, 21-ampere-hour battery. Any of these configurations can offer ample performance for nearly all travel needs.

Power Modes

There are three power modes available on E-Lux Electric Bikes models. You can choose between the following:

  • Throttle (Motor Only): With this option, the throttle is always on and full power is always available. You can ride using only the motor with no need to pedal.
  • Pedal Assist: This is the most commonly used mode for electric bikes. There are five levels with different range and assistance levels (the more help you get, the shorter the range and vice versa).
  • Pedaling Only: Alternatively, you can completely rely on your pedaling. This is one of the great parts of electric bikes – you never run out of fuel!
  • Additionally, you can select from three power levels. These control how hard the acceleration from the motor is.

    Top Speed Capabilities

As you may expect, the top speed of different electric bikes varies. This is because you can always pedal your bike at different rates. For the GT powertrain, a typical person on a flat surface can reach 28 miles per hour in pedal-assist mode! That is a pretty prompt pace, easily able to keep pace with cars on city streets.

Some of our other powertrain options have slightly lower top speeds such as 22 or 24 miles per hour. However, no matter what you choose, you can comfortably get around smoothly.

    Maximum Range

Of course, top speed doesn’t mean too much if it isn’t paired with range. You want to know that you can get wherever you need to go on your bike. The larger battery option from E-Lux Electric Bike can take out e-bikes around 70 miles on a flat surface. By engaging the eco mode, you can go even further (as much as 30% more!).

The smaller battery option can still manage a respectable 45 miles. So, for most trips, either battery will be more than enough.
