How many battery cells are in a Tesla? What about an Ebike?
How many battery cells are in a Tesla? What about an E-bike? Some model Teslas use Panasonic 1865 battery cells, and these are the same size and brand cells in some e-bikes. Although the internal chemistry is a little different. But have you ever wondered how many cells are in a Tesla or an e-bike for that matter?
According to Insideevs.com, the 1865 battery cell (1865 stands for 18mm x 65mm) has been used in the Tesla Roadster, Model S, and Model X.
The 2170 (which stands for 21mm x 70mm) is a higher density and is used in the Model 3 and the Model Y. So let's use those two batteries as an example.
For the 1865 Battery Cells:
The Tesla Roadster has 6,831 cells.
The Tesla Model S has 7,104 cells.
The Tesla Model X has 7,256 cells.
Our Tahoe Fat Tire Cruiser, with a 35-mile range, has 52 of those same-sized battery cells.
For the 2170 Battery Cells:
The Tesla Model 3 Short Range has 2,976 cells.
The Tesla Model 3 Long Range has 4,416 cells.
The Tesla Model Y has 4,680 cells.
Our Malibu GT, with a 35-mile range, has 65 of those same-sized battery cells.
So there you have it.
